Every May, the Cannes Festival takes over the town and the world’s tabloids

Professionals from the film industry, international stars and future actors blend with the avid mass of images and surprising meetings. Glitter, stars, rumours and also scandals and diplomatic affaires…the Cannes Festival is the place where all attentions is focused for a fortnight. Major events or minor anecdotes sometimes take on excessive dimensions, and some have even created their own legend.

Cate Blanchett, Chair of the Jury

The Australian actress Cate BLANCHETT will be the Chair of the Jury for this 71st edition of the Cannes Festival. In consequence, she is following on from Pedro ALMODOVAR (2017), George MILLER (2016) and Joel & Ethan COEN (2015). She is the eleventh woman in the history of the festival to have taken on this responsibility, following on in particular from Isabelle HUPPERT (2009) and Jane CAMPION (2014). During her career, Cate BLANCHETT has notably won two Oscars, one – best supporting actress – for her interpretation of Katharine Hepburn in "The Aviator" (2005), and the other – best actress – for her role in Woody Allen’s "Blue Jasmine" in 2014. In 2007, she was awarded the best actress title at the Venice Film Festival for her interpretation of Jude Quinn/Bob Dylan in "I'm Not There". The actress has also been awarded three Golden Globes.
