From 4-11 April, Cannes is hosting Canneseries, the 1st International Series Festival

From 4-11 April, Cannes is hosting Canneseries, the 1st International Series Festival.

Making Cannes the World Series Capital
70 years after the creation of one of the world’s most prestigious festivals, Cannes is taking on the series. In parallel with the MIPTV, the global television programme market, and in partnership with CANAL+ and Reed Midem, this 1st edition of Canneseries has a clear aim: make Cannes the World Series Capital. Organized by an independent association presided over by Fleur Pellerin, this festival, which is open to all, intends to bring together the best of those involved in the world of series, to have the talent of  tomorrow brought to light and to create an international competition.

The patron of this event is the Danish star Sidse Babett KNUDSEN, known for her roles in the series “Borgen” and “Westworld” and winner of the Best Supporting Actress Cesar for the film “L’Hermine”.

World previews of “Versailles”, “The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair” and “Safe”

The 1st Cannes International Series Festival opens its first edition with the exclusive world premier screening of the third season of the original CANAL+ creation, “Versailles”. This prestigious series, with a modern and original approach to political life under the reign of King Louis XIV, will be shown to the public as a world premier on Wednesday 4 April at 19:15 in the Palais des Festivals de Cannes’ Debussy Theatre, in the presence of George BLAGDEN and Alexander VLAHOS.

The adaptation of the best-seller "The Truth About the Harry Quebert Affair" starring Patrick DEMPSEY will launch the official competition on Saturday 7 April. During closing, the steps will be walked by the team from the new Harlan COBEN series, “Safe”, with Michael C. HALL, actor from the cult series Dexter and Audrey FLEUROT, French actress from the series Engrenages.

A prestigious and glamorous event open to the general public

The programme is already proclaiming itself to be full of events: screenings of recent or older series reserved for the general public in various Cannes theatres, a night for TV series lovers, debates, master classes and retrospectives, but above all an international competition that will see the battle between ten completely new international series that are innovative and for public consumption. These screenings of one or two episodes will be open to all and free of charge: to professionals, especially MIPTV members, to the press and to the general public. An eclectic jury of international renown will be responsible for awarding the trophies that will be presented to the winning series during the Closing Ceremony, broadcast live on Canal+ on Wednesday 11 April.

Canneseries is also:

Canneseries Addict, a week of free screenings, meetings and free rein in Cannes cinemas in order to bring fans of the small screen together in front of the silver screen

Canneseries Digital, a competition dedicated to short, innovative and promising formats that are a clear response to the new ways of watching series

In Development, a creation forum dedicated to developing new international productions. A true accelerator benefiting the producers and authors of fiction series, this event will allow the latter to solidify their projects by having them discovered by a large number of decision-makers and financial backers.
