Postponement of MIPIM 2020

Reaction from the City of Cannes and the Palais des Festivals following the postponement of MIPIM 2020.

Reed MIDEM is postponing the 31st edition of MIPIM, which was to be held at the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes from 10 to 13 March, until June 2020 (2-5 june).

We understand the decision by the organiser, Reed MIDEM, to postpone the MIPIM event within the current context relating to coronavirus (covid-19).

We welcome this courageous decision, which is based on our top priority of protecting the public, above all other issues.

The City of Cannes and its Palais des Festivals et des Congrès fought for the event to be postponed, in order to protect jobs and the entire value chain of the local event economy.

Faced with this situation, all the municipal teams and the Palais des Festivals et des Congrès offer their full commitment, alongside the organiser Reed MIDEM, and all the socio-professional players of Cannes, to organise this postponement according to the best possible conditions and guarantee the success of this 31st edition of MIPIM, which is a global benchmark.

The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes continues to monitor and assess the potential impact of Coronavirus (covid-19) on events taking place in Cannes, in conjunction with health authorities and local, national and international authorities.

So far, no restrictive measures have been decided on by the Prefecture of the Alpes Maritimes for the events currently taking place on the Côte d’Azur. It is appropriate to ensure fair treatment between events, and we therefore await, following talks between Mayor of Cannes David Lisnard and Prime Minister Edouard Philippe, the national stance on gatherings most likely announced by the Government this afternoon.

The Palais des Festivals et des Congrès de Cannes reiterates that it has taken numerous measures, in conjunction with the City of Cannes and in constant contact with the prefectural and health authorities (Regional Health Agency and Directorate of the Cannes Simone Veil Hospital), aimed at limiting the risk of spreading the virus, and continues to implement new preventative measures on a regular basis.

Cancellation MIPTV 2020

Paris, March 4, 2020 - Reed MIDEM today announces that MIPTV 2020, scheduled to take place March 30-April 2 in Cannes, has been cancelled due to concerns related to the coronavirus (Covid-19). MIPDoc and MIPFormats, programmed for March 28-29, have also been cancelled.

Season 3 of CANNESERIES, the Cannes International Series Festival, originally scheduled to run parallel to MIPTV, will now take place October 9-14, alongside MIPCOM.

The next edition of MIPTV will take place April 12-15, 2021, with MIPDoc and MIPFormats scheduled for April 10-11. Season 4 of CANNESERIES will be held in April 2021 during MIPTV.

“In the current context, many of our clients have expressed concerns about travelling at this time. Rescheduling MIPTV in the coming months is not feasible, so the most appropriate course of action is to cancel MIPTV for 2020,” said Paul Zilk, Reed MIDEM Chief Executive.
“The well-being of our clients, partners and staff is our priority. We are grateful to clients for their support and constructive input during this challenging period. We look forward to welcoming everyone to MIPCOM in October 12-15 and we are delighted that CANNESERIES will be at our side again this year,” added Paul Zilk.
